Green Academy in Aarhus (Jordbrugets Uddannelsescenter Arhus), is a vocational education and training provider that was founded in 1889. The school is situated in the heart of Denmark – on the peninsula of Jutland just outside Denmark's second-largest city Aarhus. Green Academy offers a broad range of educations within all green areas: Landscaping, Gardening, Florist, Foresting, Farming, Farm Machinery Operating, Animal Care and Nursery, both for Danish and international students.
Besides offering different educations, by participating in different Erasmus+ projects (Key Action 1 and Key action 2) and Nordplus projects, we give the students and the staff the opportunity to spend a period abroad. This is to increase their skills and their future employability.
In the past few years, Green Academy has successfully secured Erasmus+ founding, each year sending more than 50 students for three weeks internships all over Europe.
The Landscape education is one of the biggest department at Green Academy, and prepares students for their professional work within this area.
The number of staff is around 100 (including 40 faculty/lecturers), and the annual student enrolment is app. 550 full-time study equivalents equalling some 2.000-2.500 individuals. Finally, we run a boarding school with 410 beds in single and double rooms, and a canteen offering full board meals.
In 2018, Green Academy was awarded the Erasmus+ Vocational Education and Training (VET) Charter as a result of this success. This Charter recognizes the school’s excellent performance, managing student and staff mobility projects.
The European Platform for Urban Greening (EPLUG) aims to intensify the collaboration within the knowledge triangle (VET – Research & Development – Business) to facilitate these adjustments and to develop high quality curricula and qualifications focused on these urban greening skills needs and societal challenges.
The network aims to increase the quality and adaptability of the skills ecosystem (VET, Companies, Policy makers, Individuals) for urban green landscaping. As driver of excellence and innovation, each European CoVE on Urban Greening promotes the proactive role for VET in local/regional development.
Established in 1963, the European Landscape Contractors Association (ELCA) serves as a leading platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and advocacy within the European landscaping industry. ELCA works to foster cooperation among landscape professionals while enhancing the visibility and recognition of the industry across Europe and globally.
A key focus of ELCA is political engagement and representation. The association actively maintains and strengthens relationships with members of the European Parliament, European Commission officials, and other relevant stakeholders. By building partnerships with like-minded organizations and expanding its network in Brussels, ELCA ensures that the interests of the landscape industry are effectively represented at the highest levels of policymaking.
Through these efforts, ELCA continues to advance the development and impact of the landscaping profession throughout Europe and beyond.
